My name is Joanna Gabler.
I always want my art to be that sacred gateway, opening the mystery of the unknown.
That quest for understanding what is unknown, hidden from the physical eye, but at the same time being an underlaying foundation for our physical reality has been a subject of human exploration for ages through philosophy, alchemy and spiritual teachings.
My love affair with art began in the early nineties when I started exploring different art media that allowed me to capture light hidden within objects. Captivated by what I saw through the macro lens of my old Nikon when I photographed flowers, I started painting what I called “flower portraits.”
As an artist I love color. I live in color, in the eternal play of light and darkness that live around us and within us. This is clearly visible in my meditative series, which I began around the same time and continue to paint as my main subject until today.
In 2008 I started exploring almost unlimited potential of digital photography and created the form which I call “Transcapes.” In my digital art I am exploring potential worlds hidden in plain site in the world around us.
One of my daily practices for many years was creating a mandala and accompanied meditation. This form the base of my book of daily meditations with mandalas.
